Director of Human Resources and Compliance Officer

On behalf of our client, Golden State Dermatology, we are conducting a search for a Director of Human Resources and Compliance Officer, who will aid this physician owned group in their plans to continue rapid growth within their current markets as well as new markets in the Western United States. Reporting to Golden State Dermatology’s (GSD) Chief Executive Office, this leader will support the management company and any associated medical groups. This role is central to achieving high quality customer service for every patient interaction. GSD is an entrepreneurial environment, so the right person will be comfortable with a fast pace, be creative, and be flexible/adaptable.

GSD is a leading and comprehensive dermatology group with 24 locations and 60 providers throughout the Central Valley and San Francisco Bay Area. Services include dermatology, cosmetics, radiotherapy, Mohs surgery for skin cancer, pathology, and plastic surgery. GSD’s mission is to provide the full spectrum of dermatology care by combining leading clinicians and resources in the pursuit of the ultimate patient experience.

Essential Duties + Responsibilities

  • Implement processes or programs (e.g., surveys) to retain high performing staff and providers.
  • Develop and maintain a point of view of GSD’s staff compensation and benefits relative to the market. Partner with CFO to manage annual open enrollment. 
  • Partner with CEO and senior leadership team to manage the performance review process.
  • Formalize and communicate the cosmetic benefits associated with being part of GSD (free annual injectables, product discounts). Develop a quarterly or annual compensation and benefits statement for staff.
  • Develop and support training efforts (e.g., new hire orientation) and oversee the successful implementation of all training required for compliance.
  • Partner with COO, CFO, and medical group President to manage their respective employees. Conduct workplace investigations with the relevant business leaders.
  • Assist managers with hiring: provide training on the applicant tracking system, create offer templates, run background checks, participate in interviews as appropriate, etc.
  • Process all HR transactions: terminations, verifications of employment, leaves of absence, disability claims, workers compensation claims, unemployment claims/audits, etc.
  • Stay current on and help manage any legal issues impacting any Golden State Dermatology related entity (e.g., COVID legislation).
  • Manage the Bambee HR platform and service to maximize value and adjust as appropriate.
  • Develop, organize (leveraging the Bambee HR and Paycom systems) and enforce all company policies and practices.
  • Stay current on human resource trends, best practices, and regulatory changes.
  • Service as the organization’s Compliance Officer. Oversee and manage the organization’s compliance plan. This includes enforcing policies, gaining board approval for new policies, managing coding reviews and associated provider education, managing the compliance hotline, and reporting to the board on a quarterly basis among other responsibilities. 
  • Serve as the organization’s Safety Officer and ensure GSD if following all the applicable rules (e.g., OSHA plans, vaccine compliance).
  • Develop a process or system to help the organization manage its contracts so GSD is in compliance and aware of all contractual responsibilities.

Qualifications + Requirements

  • Must live in the San Francisco Bay Area and be able to commute to GSD’s clinics in the Bay Area, Central Valley and other geographies as the organization expands
  • Ability to develop collaborative working relationships with providers and staff
  • Comfortable in a fast pace/newly forming/dynamic organization, interested in creating new processes/procedures and experienced with change management
  • Bachelor’s degree, SHRM CP preferred with knowledge of Knowledge of EEO, ADA, FLSA, ERISA, OSHA, FMLA, CFRA, COBRA, ADA, and HIPAA
  • 5+ years’ experience in human resources including compliance
  • Clear and well-organized communicator (written and verbal)
  • Strong organizational, analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Proactive and a self-starter
  • Experience in healthcare and medical groups is a plus.
