Children’s Home Director

Under the direction of the Cristo Rey Community Center CEO, the Children’s Home Director directs and supervises the operations of the Cristo Rey Children’s Home/Residential Treatment Program. The Director is a full-time, exempt position responsible for the hiring and supervision of the Program Managers, Intake Coordinator, Clinical Director, and Medical Coordinator/Nurse, as well as overall program effectiveness, safety and excellence of care for the children in the home.

Essential Duties + Responsibilities

Program Quality

  • Oversee Quality Improvement activities including preparation of required reports, collection of program service data and audit preparation. Continually seeks program improvements to achieve outcomes and add efficiencies.
  • Provides oversight to the development of annual program planning and financial budgeting for each program area. 
  • Ensures budgeted financial and performance outcome expectations are met and maintains census at or above budgeted levels.  
  • Oversees (identifies) development and implementation of new, expanded or restructured service lines/components as needed to achieve success and meet program goals and/or to address identified needs within the community.

 

Staff and Administrative Leadership

  • Oversees the development of recruitment channels, hiring, supervision/evaluation, and termination of program staff in collaboration with Human Resources and other program leadership. 
  • Ensure all deadlines established by internal and/or external parties are met.
  • Provides leadership direction and development for all direct reports to assure goals are met within the strategic focus of the programs and organization. Provides guidance and direction in regards to problem solving and client concerns.

  • Takes on additional duties and/or responsibility as assigned by the CEO.

 

Clinical/ Licensing leadership

  • Meets or exceeds administrative and clinical standards of quality and compliance established through accreditation, licensing, contractual agreements, or other regulatory bodies and assures the standards and practices are consistent with the policies, procedures and philosophy of Cristo Rey and Catholic Social Teachings.
  • Use the support and knowledge of the psychiatrists to implement strong clinical support and guidance into the programs.  Determine best use of the psychiatrists’ time to make the biggest impact on programs.
  • Facilitate the psychiatric component of the clinic. Function as a liaison and support to the psychiatrists.
  • Works collaboratively with Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS); Division of Child Welfare Licensing and instills the same collaboration among staff.
  • Oversees the implementation, integration and practice of the agency’s treatment philosophy across the Children’s Home, assuring a safe and productive asset-based treatment environment for Cristo Rey clients.
  • Ensures compliance with the Children Protection Laws.  Ensures all staff understand the reporting requirements and follows the program’s process for filing a CPS Report.

 

Agency Leadership and Community Partnership

  • Maintains and/or creates new contacts/collaborations with other service organizations and agencies, state associations, affiliates, churches, religious organizations, community groups and other Cristo Rey staff to market/promote program services.
  • Responsible for the development, implementation and oversight of effective marketing campaigns to address sustainability of programs.
  • Functions as a member of the agency leadership team to assist in short and long-term strategic and operational planning and implementation for the organization.
  • Maintains positive and professional interpersonal relationships and represents the best interests of the agency at all times.  Remains sensitive to language and cultural differences of clients and staff.
  • Supports the identification, research and cultivation plans (including proposal and evaluation report development) for all government grant and contractual opportunities.

Qualifications + Requirements

  • Education/ Experience: Master’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology or another related Human Service field.   Minimum of 4 years of experience in a senior management position in a human services agency or equivalent is strongly preferred.  
  • 2+ years of supervisory responsibility in a residential setting highly preferred.
  • Registration, Licenses, Certifications or special training: A valid Michigan Driver License and access to reliable transportation. Must have attended CWTI and/or BCAL Trainings, if needed.
  • Strong program operations skills, creating and implementing residential policies and procedures. 
  • Proven ability to hold high standards of excellence in a staff setting through accountability, incentives and culture creation. 
  • Experience hiring, training and developing staff. 
  • Excellent communication both written and verbal.
  • Spanish speaking, a plus. 
  • Experience with teens and children in a residential setting is a plus.
