Director of Flooring (Chicago, IL)

Do you live and breathe commercial floor covering? Do you have relationships in the flooring industry in addition to well-rounded technical knowledge (glue, moisture, sealing, quality, etc)? On behalf of our client, Forward Space, we are searching for a Director of Flooring who, as an exceptional leader, will develop long-term strategy for expansion of the flooring division, lead new business development efforts, manage the division’s overall performance, and implement measures for continuous improvement. This position will report to the VP of Sales and Solutions and will direct a team of four to six associates.

  1. LMA (Leadership, Management, Accountability)
  • Maintain process and staffing in Estimation, Order Management, Project Management, and Accounts Receivable, all while ensuring top-level customer service and experience throughout the process
  • Maintain organizational design (fill opens, redeploy/reassign as needed, look for savings/efficiencies, manage exits if needed, ensure onboarding completed)
  • Lead and participate in key meetings, using tracking and accountability tools (Staff meeting, department meetings, 1:1’s, companywide, NBD, Key vendor meetings, EOS tools)
  1. Set & Achieve revenue goals for Flooring
  • Develop and execute appropriate strategies and tactics for securing new business, specifically geared toward General Contractors
  • Collaborate and strategize internally with Account Executives to identify opportunities within existing accounts as well as new business
  1. Direct efforts to sell, promote, bid flooring – with GCs and supporting AEs
  • Penetrate accounts using creative, pro-active strategies, developing goals and creating client partnerships
  • Develop and maintain working knowledge of company-offered product lines including but not limited to furniture, technology, flooring and architectural solutions along with associated services
  1. Maintain relationships with major vendors, suppliers, industry influencers and clients
  • Maintain and grow existing accounts
  • Recommend appropriate solutions/applications to meet customer needs


  • Bachelor’s college degree
  • 5 plus years relevant industry experience in flooring, construction, or interiors – Flooring dealer preferred
  • Experience developing successful programs that enhance sales
  • Demonstrated effective leadership of a sales team
  • Ability to analyze, develop, propose, and communicate strategies that will help the organization be more effective, competitive, or otherwise achieve its goals
  • Ability to skillfully negotiate in such a way that creative solutions are developed to satisfy all parties
  • Ability to assess multiple tasks and develop a plan to complete them in a logical and efficient manner
  • Ability to gain others’ support for ideas, proposals, projects, and solutions
  • Ability to learn and retain product, application, program & competitive information
